The Netball competition was a organised as round-robin event where the total goals scored throughout the event established a team’s final position.  The final positions were:

1st       Central and East
2nd      Wales & West
3rd      North
4th       South West
5th       London & South East
6th       Scotland & Northern Ireland.

Central and East Region’s Team Manager was 936 (Hertford & Ware) Squadron’s Civilian Instructor June Watson.  She said that she was “very, very excited, the team did really well and deserve their win as they worked very hard together.

The Referees voted Cadet Summer Cowan 1145 (Dunfermline) Squadron as the player of the day.

Meanwhile, on the Rugby field heats were being played in that competition.  This was a knock-out tournament that produced a final between Central and East and South West.  The score in the final was 37-0.  The team’s captain was Cadet Willis Ingleby from 1406 (Spalding) Squadron.  He said that it was “good to play with other people and not just his regular club team.  The [Region’s] team has only had one training session and so have not had the chance to really gel as a unit. The Region’s Team Manager was Sqn Ldr Andy Baker RAFVR(T).  He said that it was a fabulous day and great effort  by a team brought together on the day, a great team effort”

The event was organised by Alex Maddison, the ATC’s Sports Officer at HQ Air Cadets.  He said “the day produced many great games and often with score-lines that did not reflect the closeness of the matches.  The games were all played in a great spirit”.

Cadets wishing to play in future tournaments should keep an eye out for their local inter-Squadron competitions and they may be selected for next year’s event.  If you play in a club (eg Rugby) outside the ATC your skills may well be of benefit to your Squadron, Wing and Region.
