Recently 1239 (Broxbourne & Hoddesdon) Squadron Warrant Officer RAFAC, Barry Lynn was awarded a Certificate of Meritorious Service by the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Mr Robert Voss CBE DL.
The citation written by Flight Lieutenant Tony Hall RAFAC, Commanding Officer, 1239 (Broxbourne & Hoddesdon) Squadron reads:
“Warrant Officer Barry Lynn RAFAC joined 1239 Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC) as a cadet in 1978. Despite joining late in his teenage years, it is very clear that he made the most of his time as a cadet and sought to benefit from what the cadet experience then was.
It is this time which has driven him to deliver what he has over the last 36 years.
The experience was very different back then but clearly formative as after 4 years as a cadet, and after a very short break, Barry returned to 1239 Sqn as a Civilian instructor, a position he held for 9 years.
An opportunity arose for him to take a uniformed staff role helping to steer the young people that come through the Squadron’s doors – the last 26years have been spent doing just that and he shows no signs of stopping!
WO Lynn has attended a significant number of camps and courses as both cadet and staff and has a fondness for the aircraft, past and present of our parent service. He is eager to impart his knowledge to the cadets on matters of equipment, usage and locations, and can be found at many an air show throughout the year often allowing accompanying cadets to utilise his photographic equipment.
As the Squadron Warrant Officer, WO Lynn leads on matters of drill, deportment and uniform standards and takes great pride in making sure the youngsters of the unit present themselves as 1239 Squadron’s finest.
Throughout his involvement with the Air Training Corps, WO Lynn’s dedication, purpose and great affection for every aspect of the Corps have been plainly evident. His leadership has endeared him to countless cadets and staff members alike.
This award recognises the excellent support he continues to give the unit.”
