Between 3rd and 10th August 41 cadets and eight adult staff members of the Norfolk and Suffolk Wing of the RAF Air Cadets enjoyed their annual summer camp at Royal Air Force Halton.
One of the staff members was 42F (King’s Lynn) Squadron’s Sergeant Alex Stapleton RAFAC who accompanied four cadets from King’s Lynn, Cadets Michael Bramham, Ellie-Mai Hishon, Patricia Sambaryte and Loki Wales who was a contender for the Best Cadet Award at the end of the week.
Activities, both on and off the base, ensured that the cadets gained as many experiences as possible during their action packed week. On the base they visited the McCudden Flight Heritage Centre with its flight simulators from the 1920’s, the Trenchard Museum and the Halton Training Trenches (used during WWI to train infantry for the Western Front). They used the stations high and low ropes course and were also given a tour of the Halton Hall Officers Mess.
Off base visits included Windsor Castle, the RAF Museum at Hendon, Bletchley Park and the Battle of Britain Bunker at Uxbridge. And whilst on a visit to the Aylesbury swimming pool a several cadets were able to gain proficiency certificates.
All agreed that it had been a fantastic week during which they had done, and most importantly, thoroughly enjoyed, so many activities.
